We have a volunteer military. Upon enlisting the enlistee automatically becomes a better American, more patriotic, and a more noble citizen, than the civilians they serve. That is just plain absurd.
The military industrial complex has a budget to convince every American of how much more, those in the military, are better Americans just by virtue of volunteering to "serve" their country. Does anyone else see a problem with this.
The military industrial complex, through a combination of the ignorance of the nation's citizens, fear mongering, and a massive propaganda budget, convince everyone of their noble duty to protect our country. How every military member is a leader in of him or herself. Though the facts are that is not true.
They use the history of civilian volunteers and draftees to make a case for the hero pedestal the military stands upon. Service in wars based lies are included with legitimate wars. The facts, lost on all seemingly, that history is full of examples of where volunteer and draftee civilians endure and succeed, in spite of the military establishment, as they fight with honor and dignity.
The idea that such a duty bound and honorable service is used to promote the fraud that our military has become is the most obscene and heinous aspect of what our democracy has become.
There is nothing more dishonorable that creating conflicts from lies, to create heroes that die, to sustain a sector of our nation's economy that thrives on the same lies.
A man that dies in a firefight is no more of a patriot than a man that dies doing his job as a civilian. That is a democracy.
Every American has a right to have the option to serve his country in a military that we all pay far too much for. Take the money that go to advertising agencies and their executives and use it to enlist all Americans in the military.
Just like in the 1930s when FDR created all his civilian work corps we can provide the same economic boost to the segment of our society that needs it most. Young, disenfranchised, and neglected men and women that by virtue of where in our society they are born wind up having little chance of succeeding in life. And at the same time we can improve the military with an infusion of new people which they need desperately. No more vetting is needed than are you an American.
If the military wants to regain the honor it abuses do it by supporting the country in a way that will make a quantifiable difference. It won't be done by murdering people in foreign lands in wars based on lies. It can be done by elevating the capability and readiness of more of our brothers and sisters that need it most.
